The weekend was rough, but lovely at the same time. As old as I am, my grandfather's funeral was only the second funeral I have ever been too. (The first was a sorority sister in January 2006.)
We drove ALL Friday...11 hours. We then met my grandfather's sisters and their husbands for dinner, which was a lot of tears, but even more laughing. Branden and I then headed to the Pittsburgh airport to pick up Cory and Derrick. I was so ready to get Saturday over with. My grandmother was beside herself. When we went to sit down, (bless her heart) all she wanted was me, Branden, Kati, Cory, and Derrick in the front row with her. She was so cute, I kept saying, "No, Gram it's okay Derrick can sit in the second row" and she kept saying, "No, I want him up here with us." It then came to me that Derrick was really part of my grandfather's life the past 2 1/2 years. Each and everyone of us sat and cried, said goodbye. My uncle spoke, I spoke. (I got a couple laughs out of everyone.) After the funeral, we headed over to Aunt Carol's (Pap's sister) for food, catching up, and of course drinking! (We are the Smith's......) It was so nice to talk with everyone. On Sunday we drove the 11 hours once again, returned home, and like my Dad said, "On Monday, we're going to go home and start anew."
