Another grandparent lost...

Sadly, Derrick's grandmother, Eva Stewart, passed away late Thursday morning in her own home on the farm she has lived on most of her life. Close to the age of 90, her body was breaking down. From what I know, she led an extrodinary life. Eva had five children, with three of them still living. She died with her three children with her (what a great way to go; to have your family around you.)

Derrick called me yesterday around 4pm. I knew exactly why he was calling. He said his dad called him right afterwards, but they didn't tell anyone else in the family until school and work was out. Derrick is doing really well. He doesn't like to talk about it, which is completely understandable. People handle their emotions differently.

This weekend is the visitation and funeral in Dexter. We will be heading to Ste. Genevieve tonight to stay and we will all head to Dexter tomorrow together. Everyone is coming in, it's amazing how a death brings family together. This same situation just happened with my family only less than two months ago. When my grandfather passed people came out of the woodwork. But, it's always great to see family.

I called my grandmother this morning, because I was really thinking about her yesterday and today. She is still grieving and having a hard time, however, older people have such a different outlook on death. I guess they know they've lived their life and they get to the point where they don't want to live anymore. Understandable....

Anyway...last night we met up with some good friends for drinks. We did not want to sit at home and just think about because that makes things 10 times worse. Derrick's highschool friend Aaron came, Lo, Gavan, and other work friends. It was a good night, very fun!

Before I go I have to share with you something my grandmother has always said, and she said it again this morning. She goes, "Ya know honey, in life you only have to do three things,
BE BORN, DIE, AND PAY TAXES."

Isn't that the truth??
