Celebrating the new year ahead is always fun. 2008 was a wonderful year for me. Many milestones and tributes. To begin, I graduated college, found a career, got engaged, and started a life with my fiance. The tributes are to two amazing people. First, in September we said goodbye to my Pap - Donald Smith, and Derrick's Grandma - Eva Stewart. 2008 also taught me a lot. My close friends are the ones who have stuck by me with whatever decisions I have made (even if they don't always agree!) and who are always there for you. And...the older you get the closer I have grown with my family and Derrick's as well (even though there have been disagreements!) 2008 was very good to me :)
To ring in the new year, we spent the evening at Curt & Amy Jenkersons house. It was the 3rd annual 'New Year's Eve' party! It was a blast to say the least. Liz and I spent the night playing round after round of beer pong........ahhhh...lol, dancing, and oh, participating in many rounds of shots........... :) There was a good amount of friends there, about 25 I'd say! It's always fun to count down the last 10 seconds with champayne in hand...our New Years kiss was spectacular!! We stopped, looked at each other and both said, "We are getting married this year!" CRAZY!!! All I know is that 2009 is going to fly by - work is already booked with US Championship stuff, let alone wedding stuff is going to start rolling in before we know it. I am really looking forward to a year filled with family, great friends, and fun times. (Look at Curt's face in this picture...)
The first morning of 2009 certainly started off right! After we all helped clean Curt and Amy's house, Liz, Charlie, Derrick, and I headed back to our apt to make breakfast, well...it was me and Liz who made breakfast (go figure) and as the boys would say, 'the hens are in the kitchen cluckin.' Put it this way, Liz and I like to talk to each other, a lot :) French toast and bacon, let's face it, everything is better with bacon! Afterwards, the boys went back into watch TV and Liz and I sat in my kitchen like two little old ladies, drank coffee, and talked about everything and anything for like 2 hours!!! She's a keeper...I like all my 'keeper' friends :) ....you know who you are!
In about an hour we are heading to my parents' house to ring in the new year a little with them. Every year my mom makes sauerkraut, pork, kabosi, and mashed potatoes. For years, my family has had this tradition. On the east coast, people believe that if you eat pork on the first day of the year, it will bring PROSPER to you. I know one thing...this is my favorite meal of the YEAR!
!Happy New Year to all!
